Voters in precincts affected by street closures will be permitted to pass the barricade

NEW ORLEANS, LA — Today, NOTMC issued parking instructions and reminders in advance of the Blue Angels Air Show scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 21, 2012 from 1:00p.m.-4:00p.m. and on Sunday, April 22, 2012 from 1:30p.m.-4p.m. along Lake Shore Drive between Pontchartrain Beach and the Senator Ted Hickey (Seabrook) Bridge that crosses the inner harbor navigational canal. The event is part of NOLA Navy Week and is expected to bring 80,000 to 100,000 spectators.

The Senator Ted Hickey (Seabrook) Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic for the air show from Noon to 5:00p.m. Traffic will be diverted either east on Stars and Stripes Boulevard or river bound on Downman Road.

Lake Oaks Subdivision will be closed to vehicular traffic unless the drivers are in possession of a placard or a valid driver’s license indicating they are a resident of the subdivision. Elysian Fields & Lark Street, Leon C. Simon & Mandeville Street, and Leon C. Simon & Jay Street will have manned checkpoints.

In anticipation of the crowds, citizens are encouraged to take alternate routes and also to ride bicycles to the event.

There is no longer parking available at the UNO campus. The main designated parking areas for this event are the parking lots located at the UNO Arena Complex (access Franklin Avenue) and the SUNO parking lot (access Press Drive and Leon C. Simon).  There may be some additional parking located at the Southern University grounds located just south of Leon C. Simon.

Parking will also be available at Elysian Fields at 610 underneath the overpass.  The RTA will add an extra stop at this location to offer public transit services.

Once the designated parking lots are full, the area bounded by Lake Shore Drive, Elysian Fields Avenue, Leon C. Simon Boulevard and Franklin Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic. Local residents in vehicles will be allowed access to their homes or businesses, and spectators on foot attending the air show will be allowed to pass into the secure area.
