FAQs

When is NOLA Navy Week?

NOLA Navy Week 2015 takes place in New Orleans from Thursday, April 23rd through Wednesday, April 29th.

Which ships are coming and from where?

There will be six ships total lining the banks of the Mississippi.

The U.S. Navy is bringing the USS Wasp, the USS Cole and the USS James E Williams. The U.S. Coast Guard will be represented by the USCGC Dauntless. The British Royal Navy is bringing the HMS Lancaster and the Royal Canadian Navy will bring the HMCS Athabaskan.

Where will the ships be located?

The ships will stretch along the Mississippi River beginning in the Warehouse District at the Thalia Street Wharf down to the end of the French Quarter at the Governor Nicholls Street Wharf. For more details about each ships location, please consult the berthing map.

Will the ships be open to the public?

Yes. The ships will be open daily for General Public Visitation beginning on Friday, April 24th through Tuesday, April 28. Hours of operation vary for each ship throughout the week. Please consult our calendar to see which ships are open which days and during what times. Visitors will be allowed on board on a first come, first serve basis, so be prepared to wait in line during peak times. Because these are active military ships, visitors can also expect security screenings prior to boarding. Photo ID is required for all visitors over the age of 18.

Are there opportunities for private group tours?

Due to demand, the period for signing up for Private Group Tours has now ended. We apologize for any inconvenience and encourage you to visit the ships during General Public Visitation (see above).

What other events are open to the public?

– There will be an official Navy Week Gala held at the National World War II Museum on the night of Friday, April 24. Tickets, pricing and additional information can be found here.

– There will also be a Seafood Cook Off held the morning of Sunday, April 26 at Spanish Plaza, which is located in Downtown New Orleans next to the Outlet Collection at Riverwalk. The Cook Off will begin at 11 a.m. and will feature culinary specialists from each of the participating ships paired with local chefs.

– There will also be a fireworks show the evening of Monday, April 27 along Woldenberg Park.
